Dear Ms. Ocasio-Cortez:
It has been two months since your shocking primary victory over Democratic Party incumbent and faithful soldier, Joe Crowley. Your decisive win is a tenfold beacon in the night, reminding all Americans that you’re the new face of the Democratic Party, with political ideals that were thrown on the ash heap of history a generation ago. and today only espoused by our enemies, shattered governments and naïve, entitled Millennials.
You were born three weeks before the fall of the Berlin Wall, yet you embrace the twisted ideology that turned Eastern Europe into a prison, Latin America into a torture chamber and Asia into a charnel house in the 20th Century.
You claim to have grown up in abject poverty in the Bronx, but in actuality, your father was an architect and your family moved to Yorktown Heights in Westchester County when you were 5 years old. Demographic information indicates that Yorktown Heights has a family median income of roughly $140,000 a year. Not exactly the Life and Times of Oliver Twist, is it? But, you wouldn’t want your proletariat voting bloc to know that.
You are no more working class than the Kennedy’s are.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. You are the future party apparatchik, living in relative comfort, while the average citizen is supposed to exist in the darkness of socialism, as you promise them a utopia that cannot, will not and has not existed except in the minds of Marx and Engels.
Your statements and speeches since your primary victory would be considered laughingly naïve, if they weren’t so frightening. On Firing Line, you stated that ‘capitalism will not always exist,’ and credited its success to the ‘course of human evolution.’ In actuality, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, capitalism’s success can be laid at the feet of laissez-faire economics, something anathema to socialism.
You stated that ‘unemployment is low because people are working 80 hours a week.’ Truthfully, the average number of hours worked in the private sector has stayed close to 34.5 hours a week since 2006, except for a dip during the Great Recession.”
Last month, while addressing a group of Hawaii Democrats, you stated that your life has been shaped by “an unaddressed history of imperialism and poverty.”
Perhaps you can tell me what kind of imperialism and poverty you experienced in Westchester County? You also mentioned that you come “from a place of colonized people.” FYI – Westchester County was colonized in the 1600’s and you weren’t born in Puerto Rico. You are no more a native of Puerto Rico, then I am a native of Europe. We are Americans, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, whether you like it or not.
Then there’s your comment that a ‘17-year-old can walk into a shop” and purchase an assault weapon.’ Actually, Federal law prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from purchasing a hand gun.
Like many in the Democratic Party, you wish to also abolish ICE. Your primary motivation is to cater to your new voting block of illegals since Middle America has abandoned anything to do with the DNC.
While declaring that you know nothing about geopolitics, your platform is a macabre descent into the maelstrom of big government tyranny. You want Cuban Style National Health Care, free government East German style housing for everyone, federal jobs for the whole population, while embracing that classic socialist axiom, of ‘take all the guns.’
Then there’s all that revolutionary talk we keep hearing from you. You, like all leftists, wish to destroy this country and remake it in the image of your idols, Che Guevara, Castro, Stalin, Ortega,Trotsky, Honecker, and Jaruzelski to name a few.
You call yourself a Democratic Socialist, but in actuality you’re a communist. Leftists often describe socialism as some kind of harmonious fantasy land where the government takes care of everyone and we all equally survive on the joyous fruits of what you call a peace economy.
“From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs” as your idol, Herr Marx often wrote.
The world has been down this road before. The road leads to only one place, the hell of Marxist-Leninism, where out of the fantastical ideas of utopia, comes one of the greatest frauds fraught upon humanity. The so-called worker’s paradise is, was and always will be nothing more than a penal colony sketched in the charcoal grey lifestyle of the communist state, where millions suffer at the hands of a few; all the while toiling, clawing through misery and clamoring for the final and glorious state of communism that has never existed and never will.
The list of failed socialist states is long indeed; Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Angola, East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Yugoslavia, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, North Korea and of course, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
Isn’t it funny, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, how the old communists who once controlled Eastern Europe now call themselves Democratic Socialists too?
You and the members of your generation never experienced the Cold War. To you, it’s ancient history, an app you can delete, a picture you can swipe away. To you, socialism and communism are trendy and cool, and strangely useful alternatives to the capitalism and freedom that allowed you and your family to prosper.
After listening to your interviews, it’s more than apparent that you know nothing about the sacrifices of US pilots to supply Berlin during the airlift in 1948, or the Wall that divided that city from 1961 to 1989. It’s more than apparent that you never heard of the brave Hungarians facing down Russian tanks in 1956. It’s obvious that you know little of Khrushchev and how his false belief that JFK was weak, brought the world to the edge of nuclear Armageddon in 1962. You are ignorant of a nation’s Prague Spring, and a workers’ rebellion in the dockyards of Gdansk that led to a movement called Solidarity. Certainly, you have never heard of monsters like Pol Pot and thugs like Mielke and you obviously know very little about freedom’s disciples like Pope John Paul II and Reagan and Thatcher.
Most importantly, you have no idea that the ideologies you embrace as useful economic alternatives, were responsible for the starvation, liquidation and mass murder of nearly 100 million souls who died in the Killing Fields of Cambodia, the peasant farms of the Ukraine, the cellars in LeFortovo and a million other places from Murmansk to Meiningen.
You are unaware and that is the most dangerous thing of all.
You would be wise to read books like The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and to listen to the words of President Reagan, who said so eloquently, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
Unless the people who live in your future district have a conversion to Jeffersonian ideals, I think it’s safe to say, that come November, you, the Little Commie from Westchester County, are going to be the first sitting Democratic Socialist in the United States Congress.
