An Open Letter to the Deerfield, Illinois, Village Board of Trustees

By Ray Starmann

Dear Village Board of Trustees:

You undoubtedly feel good about your recent assault weapons ban; a classic knee jerk, left wing gun control measure; full, like all liberal actions, of sound and fury, while signifying nothing but tyranny.

According to the ordinance, which you unanimously approved Monday night, it is unlawful for a person “to carry, keep, bear, transport or possess an assault weapon in the Village,” except if the weapon is “broken down in a non-functioning state,” is “not immediately accessible to any person,” or is “unloaded and enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container by a person who has been issued a currently valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.”

Your ordinance, forcing the 18,000 residents of your Chicago suburb to forfeit or secure assault weapons and magazines that fall under the ban by June 13th, forces those in violation to pay $200 to $1,000 a day as a penalty.

No wonder that your ban is already the subject of potential lawsuits, which will be filed by your enemies, those proponents of freedom, the Illinois State Rifle Association, the Second Amendment Foundation and the National Rifle Association.

Once upon a time, Deerfield, Illinois, was an upper middle class conservative enclave in Republican Lake County. But, times have changed. Blue Northern Illinois suburbia is now filled with liberal soccer moms and aggrieved Millennials who will undoubtedly support your unconstitutional and draconian gun control measure.

A good friend of our family lived in Deerfield from the early 1960’s until his death in 1999. The man, a talented house painter, had grown up in Nazi Germany. He recounted to me in detail many times how the Nazis came door to door to confiscate guns in the 1930’s. He, like all survivors of totalitarian dictatorships was perhaps the most pro-gun, pro NRA, pro freedom American I ever knew.

No doubt, he is looking down on Deerfield and crying. For he knows what will come next. Your actions are right out of a playbook that despots have used for centuries. It is called disarm the population then control them.

Under the ridiculous liberal platitudes of safety for the ‘community’ (a word the Nazis often used), saving the children, stopping more violence, and peace on earth, your ordinance is a harbinger of future progressive actions to come, as you seek to turn this nation into a socialist and unarmed left-wing hell hole.

Our Founding Fathers were well aware of people like you. They risked their lives to declare independence to get away from people like you. They fought people like you. They shed blood to stop people like you from telling us how to run our lives.

In 1776, people like you were called Redcoats. In 1939, people like you were called Nazis. In 1970, people like you were called Soviet communists. In 2018, people like you are called the Deerfield, Illinois, Village Board of Trustees.

George Washington said, “Government is not reason; it is not eloquence—it is force! Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master; never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.”

Your actions are not only irresponsible, and unconstitutional, but demonstrate once again that government; whether it is federal, state or municipal is always one step away from crossing the Rubicon and taking away the God given rights of American citizens.

Gun control advocates always say just let us pass this one measure and we’ll all live in a utopia.

But, there is no end to gun control and that is your plan. Today it is assault weapons and ten round magazines. Tomorrow it will be revolvers and shotguns. Next month it will be BB guns.

Next year it will be knives.

There is no end to gun control and no end to the left’s desire to nanny us into total tyranny.

A word of warning to the Deerfield Village Board of Trustees and the other local, state and federal government authorities infested with progressive tyrants – millions of gun owners in America will fight, if necessary to preserve the Second Amendment.

We are not Great Britain. We are not Australia. We are not France.

We are Americans and we shed blood to ensure that we have the right to bear arms. If necessary, we will do it again.

Try and take that right away from us and watch Lexington and Concord 2.0’s take place across the country, from sea to shining sea.

Montana ain’t Deerfield. Texas ain’t Deerfield. Dixie ain’t Deerfield. Upstate New York ain’t Deerfield.

To paraphrase the defenders of Fort Morris in 1778 and those fighting for freedom during the Texas Revolution, ‘Come and Take ‘Em.’

Your ordinance is yet another reason why this country, at all levels, must be governed by conservatives. Liberals are proving again and again that they not only disrespect the constitution, but want to destroy it.

    • I would note that Friggin’ Brooklyn Ain’t Deefield either. These are the kinds of laws that are generally ignored. no one is giving up their guns and if they try to take them, the next answer is to go to their house and present them right in their faces

  1. The Constitution’s 2A Trumps crown agents of Deerfield IL

  3. Fuck you Deerfield! We will continue to carry! You have just announced to the world that Deerfield is unarmed and unprotected. You will all die miserable deaths if our loved ones are victimized!

  4. And how many of the Board of Trustees will read more than the first 3 words of this?
We, your readers, may agree with everything you said. But, the Board of Trustees will never know what you said, even if it is read to them!

  5. There has never been a government that banned it’s own ARMED FORCES from “Keeping and Bearing” ARMS.
Find one government in the history of humanity that felt a need to document a “RIGHT” for it’s ARMED FORCES to possess ARMS.
Oppressive Governments are ALWAYS banning the People’S RIGHTS to arms.
The claim that the Founding Fathers wrote the 2nd Amendment to give Our ARMED FORCES a “right” to keep and carry ARMS is S-T-U-P-I-D.
The only reason for the Second Amendment is to clearly spell-out the GOD GIVEN RIGHT of INDIVIDUALS to keep & bear ARMS.
The only reason for the BILL(list) of RIGHTS was to codify INDIVIDUALS’ GOD GIVEN RIGHTS.
Has there ever been a government that was not chock full of it’s “rights” up to and including declaring itself to be the Lord God Almighty?! (Rome, Egypt, Israel, etc)
Does the 1st Amendment mean the GOVERNMENT is allowed to give speeches? Try shutting up any Politician. But THEY would LOVE to shut YOU up, hence the FIRST Amendment.
Anyone who tells you the 2nd Amendment applies to the Army or State Militia, is telling you they think you are STUPID.
There has NEVER been a government that felt it had to codify it’s army’s/soldier’s “RIGHT” to “Keep and BEAR ARMS” because there has NEVER been a government that refused to allow It’s own soldiers to KEEP and BEAR ARMS!
The Second Amendment was written for the People, like the other 9 Amendments in the Bill of Rights. This was confirmed by the SCOTUS in the DC vs Heller decision, where they stated that the “People” in the Second Amendment were the same “People” that are mentioned in the First and Fourth Amendment.
The 2nd Amendment clearly guarantees the “right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms”, and certainly not “the Militia”.
Why would “the Militia”, a type of army manned by citizen-soldiers as opposed to full-time “regulars”, need a constitutional amendment to guarantee they have the right “to keep and bear arms”?
Is there any specific statement anywhere in the Constitution that the army Congress is empowered to raise has the “right to keep and bear arms”? Of course not. …………. That is assumed.

the 2nd amendment,, specifies that the RIGHT to bear arms is the right of the people,, NOT the militia,,,, it is the people who will make up the militia,, but the right is not the right of a “well regulated militia” it is the right of the people,

It is implicit in the nature of all kinds of armies —- be they militia or regulars, volunteer, conscripted, or mercenary — to be armed.
    They are all “armed forces”.
    They all “bear arms”.
    They all carry guns.
    That is what they do.
It certainly no more requires an amendment to the Constitution to state that “the Militia” has the RKBA , than a specific statement that the army Congress is empowered to raise may be manned by armed troops.

“The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals … it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government … it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen’s protection against the government.” Ayn Rand

  8. Did you mail this to the board? I have never seen your website and they most likely haven’t either. You better put it into their local print newspaper.

  9. That Americans will fight, I have no doubt, One Man armed with freedom in his breast is greater than 100 hiding under their bed, for this reason, Freedom in America will prevail. God bless America

  10. Chicago Suburb That Banned ‘Assault Rifles’ Is Paying a Big Price

“The Second Amendment Foundation today filed a lawsuit against the Chicago suburb of Deerfield, Illinois seeking an injunction against enforcement of the ban on so-called ‘assault weapons’ and ‘large capacity magazines’ adopted by the Village Board of Trustees earlier this week,” the statement read.

  11. Isn’t it amazing that American blood was shed to keep Britain, Australia and France free from their enemies, and now they are three of the most restrictive places on Earth? And for We the People to expect help from them in our time is absolutely ludicrous! We neither need nor want their help, we can and will handle things!

  12. Liberals should not be allowed to occupy Office as clearly they have a mental disorder and should not be in charge of a sand box never mind another man’s life style.

  13. So did the Germans defend their country from alien marauders with 2X4’s?
What about the 400,000 men from 30 different countries who volunteered to help Germany defend Europe from the Communist Bolshevik Red army who would have otherwise only been temporarily stopped by the Atlantic. Ask the Romanians and Bulgarians and Poles and all the other multiple millions how wonderful it was to live under Roosevelt’s buddy, “Uncle Joe’s” tender sensibilities. Or ask the 8-10 million German women “from 8 to 80” how orgasmic it was to be gang-raped by Illya Ehrenberg’s Mongol “Russian” butchers. That is, the ones to didn’t hemorrhage to death.

  14. The solution is simple. Do not pay the fine – do not comply.

And warn them we will pry that worthless piece of paper from their COLD DEAD HANDS!

  15. It’s been said that inside the body of every liberal progressive there is a petty tyrant just dying to get out. It would appear that Deerfield, Illinois just let their’s out.

  16. Time for all good men in areas highly influenced by the Nazi left American hating democrats to form armed support groups. Let those who would enslave us know that when they come to our doors we will resist. They are the lawbreakers and they have been put on notice. Names, numbers and addresses of all those who seek to overthrow the rights of the people should be made public.

  17. In actuality this really has nothing to do with guns, but with power and who wields it. Below are some statistic that they conveniently forget or sidestep because it does not fit their agenda. They must be made to face and come to terms about these statistics

In 2010, there were an estimated 5,419,000 crashes, 30,296 of with fatalities, killing 32,999, and injuring 2,239,000. About 2,000 children under 16 die every year in traffic collisions
According to its estimates, 40,200 people died in accidents involving motor vehicles in 2016, a 6 percent rise from the year before. If the estimates are confirmed, it will be the first time since 2007 that more than 40,000 people have died in motor vehicle accidents in a single year.
Feb 16, 2018 – The NSC data differs from figures set to be released later this year by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. NHTSA recently reported more than 37,000 people died in vehicle crashes in the U.S. in 2016, up 5.6% from a year earlier.

    Hospitals
Medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S., after heart disease and cancer, causing at least 250,000 deaths every year, according to an analysis out Tuesday indicating that patient safety efforts fall far short.
The new estimate is drawn from more-recent studies indicating the number may be much higher. For instance, a report published in the journal Health Affairs in 2011 calculated that just over 1 percent of hospital patients die each year because of medical errors. When applied to the more than 35 million people hospitalized each year, Makary and Daniel say, this would “translate into 400,201 deaths per year, more than four times the original IOM report estimate.”
The Hopkins team used evidence from four studies that analyzed medical death rate data from 2000 to 2008, including one by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the Inspector General and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Using these data, they were able to calculate a mean death rate for medical errors in U.S. hospitals. Applying this rate to the 35 million admissions in 2013, they calculated that 251,454 deaths resulted from medical mistakes.

So maybe they can tell us why these stats are so conveniently dismissed when the numbers are so high compared to deaths by rifles.

  18. As usual, Ray Starman has hit the nail squarely on the head, nailing this issue. He has once again proven the old saying that: If a republican doesn’t want a gun, he/she just doesn’t buy one. If a democrat doesn’t want a gun, he/she doesn’t want anyone else to have one either. Since this country was founded, our servicemen and women have fought for our God-given rights and freedoms, with many of them paying with their lives. Liberal democrats would have us give up these rights simply that they might gain political power to hoard over the rest of us. Let us not forget the lessons of WWII and the slaughter of the Jewish people. Want my firearms? Come and take them!

  19. Just look at DEM CONTROLLED CITIES WITH VERY STRICT GUN LAWS, DID ANY OF THOSE LAWS STOP THE 400 KILLINGS IN CHICAGO, BOSTON OR Florida?, no, why, BECAUSE those who commit crimes don’t consider the law before they commit a crime they just do it. For what ever reason people kill people. Mad at the world, jealousy, postal, revenge, religion, etc. Killing anyone is insane and goes against God who said Thou shall not kill, but love thy neighbor. Those who can’t get guns get knives or some other thing to use to kill with poison, arrows, acid, plastic bag, screwdriver, fork, etc. anything will do if the heart is set. I was so pissed off at my brother one time I hit the cement wall with my fist resulting in a few bruised knuckles, but my brother got the message. We must direct our anger elsewhere when pissed. There are some enraged accidents ‘I did not mean to’. Never the less someone got hurt, Its only guns do it quicker, so thought, not all gun shots are deadly, but they all do cause harmful wounds which may lead to death.

  20. George Orwell had this covered. ANIMAL FARM, “Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely.”
” 1984″ really fits the times, too.
The 2nd amendment has nothing to do with bringing home dinner.

  21. Dear Village Board of Trustees,

You and your legal counselor, Matthew Rose of Rosenthal, Murphy, Coblentz and Donahue, appear to have both your facts and the law wrong, where, as I understand the requirements of legal advisors, they are obligated to insure that the advice they provide to their clients is consistent with truth and that they shall not seek to mislead by an artifice or false statement of fact or law. That has not happened in this case.

The rationale for passing this extraordinary (and, to me, on its face, blatantly unconstitutional) constraint upon the 2nd Amendment) are four reported shooting incidents that have claimed 150 lives: the shooting in Parkland, FL, which left 17 dead; the Sutherland Springs, TX, shooting, which took 26 lives; the Las Vegas shooting, another 58 lives; and the Orlando shooting that killed 49 others. But you have not verified the facts.

I am a former Marine Corps officer and retired university professor who spent 35 years offering courses in logic, critical thinking and scientific reasoning, who retired from the Duluth Campus of the University of Minnesota in 2006 as a Distinguished McKnight University Professor. I have hundreds of published articles and dozens of books (see, for example, my curriculum vitae at http://www.d.umn.edu/~jfetzer/.)

My research on politically significant events, where the government has motives to mislead or deceive the public, began with JFK, where I organized a research group including a world-authority on the human brain (who was also an expert in wound ballistics), a Ph.D. in physics. also an M.D. and board-certified in radiation oncology, a physician who was in Trauma Room #1 when JFK’s body was brought in and two days later was responsible for the care and treatment of his alleged assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, in Trauma Room #2, and other highly-qualified experts on his.

We discovered that the autopsy X-rays had been altered to conceal a fist-sized blow out to the back of the head; that the brain shown in diagrams and photographs at the National Archives is not that of JFK; that the home movies of the assassination were extensively edited to conceal the true causes of his death; and more, which I published in Assassination Science (1998); Murder in Dealey Plaza (2000); and The Great Zapruder Film Hoax (2003), which are available to review on amazon.com.

Having discovered the government lies even in cases of the greatest importance, I have continued my research in collaboration with many other experts on 9/11, Wellstone, Sandy Hook, the Boston bombing, Orlando and Dallas, Charlottesville, Las Vegas and (now) Parkland. None of them occurred as we have been told. I have done many video presentations about these events, including most recently “How to Spot a False Flag”, in which I explain, on the basis of my collaborative research, how they were done to deceive the public to promote a political agenda.

In my edited book, Nobody Died at Sandy Hook (2015), for example, I published the research of thirteen experts, including six (current or retired) Ph.D. college professors. We established that the building was laden with asbestos and other bio-hazards and had been closed by 2008. There were no students there. What happened was a two-day FEMA drill, where we even found the manual. Amazon banned the book, so I released it as a pdf. You can download it by title for free.

Similarly for the other events cited as your rationale, where none of them was as you have been told. Since YouTube has been taking them down, you might have to search for “The Real Deal must see Sandy Hook and Boston bombing Update” or “Charlottesville: 2 cars + 2 drivers + 2 takes = Totally Fake”, “Vegas Update with Dr. Jim Fetzer and Scott Bennett” or “The Parkland Puzzle: How the Pieces fit Together”. The books I have published about them are at moonrockbooks.com.

There are many reasons why I believe you have committed a blunder in moving to take guns away from law-abiding citizens. They are not the problem. And how will your community defend itself if riots break out in Chicago and spill over into your community? or if a motorcycle gang came to town and began looting your stores and raping your women? European nations overrun with immigrants wish they had a 2nd Amendment so they could defend themselves against assaults.

My concern is that appropriate actions can only take place when they are based upon true beliefs. William Casey, whom Ronald Reagan appointed as Director of the CIA, reportedly told his staff, “Our disinformation campaign will be a success when everything the American people believe is false”. Since Obama nullified the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 precluding the use of propaganda and disinformation within the United States, we have been coming closer and closer to realizing Casely’s goal.

If you review the research to which I am linking, you will rapidly discover that you have acted on the basis of false beliefs, which is hardly surprising, since the mainstream media has been reinforcing the political agenda of the Deep State, which wants to deprive us of our rights under the First and Second Amendments. If once you learn the facts about these cases you continue to want to deprive the residents of Deerfield of their right to keep and bear arms, so be it! That is your decision. You should be acting on the basis of beliefs that are true and not false.

  23. Is it ok to comment on a comment? I LOVED the comment by Dr. James Fetzer, above…but the libs won’t allow themselves to become overwhelmed by facts now,
will they? the North Shore is slowly turning blue. I grew up there in the 50’s and 60’s and escaped in the early 70’s.
Could not afford to live there now if I wanted to, but I would never want to live where free and open discussion and expression of beliefs is not allowed. I think the best solution is to leave Illinois. It has become a debt and crime-ridden cess pool that can’t be fixed. And it’s all self inflicted.
